Also if you're using electric motors, why aren't you using one motor per propeller? I imagine the gear drive system would waste quite a bit of power. I'm not saying that the gears are badly designed, just that no gears are 100% efficient.

I assume it's to do with the C of G and stability.

a disadvantage for my design is that the motors out on far limbs, which reduces the rate of roll, since mass is moved far out on levers.

but my advantage is simplicity, light weight and being cheap, while remaining crash survivable.

his placement of motors, means he can generate both more force and faster rates of roll/lift, but at the cost of weight, money, complexity, and a crash will wreck his whole machine...

those are the trade offs we all must choose from.

I guess this is the Experimental stage the design will change over time I would like to use a single motor But i don't know how efficient or how big it would have to be as is one trex 500 BLDC is turning 2 Props VS 1. Instead of the Torque Tube would the cheaper Belt drive be better efficiency wise either way I like the nice ball bearings these things are made with it is very precise engineering With all the tight tolerances Align must have some nice tooling in there factory I could only wish to have the means to manufacture stuff like that.

This is the plane old Quad rotor its cool but is it not time for some one to be Different cheesey

I think E-Flite makes the align motors...

Well if your wondering I thought I would just give a quick update now I am learning the Arduino code for programming this will also be good for the old Printer CNC machine I have been working on to build my custom parts engineered from Solid Works and other stuff like PCB's and plastics. This is a nice learning experience so far.

What do you guys think about this for control the quad Link2 And do you think I could make this cheaper with the Arduino mega 2560.

if this is your first sophisticated build, i highly recommend buying a fully built, programmed and operating flight control board, (you can make one later and its easy to swap flight controllers) but you'll pull your hair out wondering if its a programming error, board errors, or bad code, or a wiring problem. When you first start setting your PIDs and you'll get wild wicked behavior from your bot even when its working properly.
