I agree that it may not be required, as Miller don't use one. I certainly think that the 50nF cap in my circuit isn't required. The idea was to add some impedance to 'encourage' the HF to 'see' the 200nF cap as a short. then to add a second cap for safety. As I said above, I didn't really know what I was doing, but trying to add some impedance seemed like a good idea.
EDIT: Would ferrite beads (say, a few toroids) be of any use here?
