@Conundrum Exactly! I hated physics and math in school but real world applications like radio or electronics make it way more fun to calculate resistances and wavelengths. I'm currently learning to design PCBs and I'm thinking about making an FM Car Transmitter as my ar radio doesn't have aux input :P

Hmm. I was actually looking into getting an amateur radio license to further my research. seems that to use certain bands it gives you some measure of legal protection in the event someone complains that your experimental inertial dampener is jamming Sky 1 or something. Also other amateur radio enthusiasts are looking at the latest EmDrive posts with interest as it could show a new method of tuning microwave cavity oscillators and suchlike.
Re. car transmitter, you might be better off using pulsed infrared. I am looking into using a circuit that turns off the transmitter if IR remote pulses are detected as this prevents it jamming other devices such as TV remotes and model helis.
