Hi everyone. I've been poking around the process of crafting custom plasma balls for last year and finally achieved nice results that can be placed for sale. Like those Bill Parker's Light Sculptures, but due to lack of glassblower tools much more simple ones, without central electrode and power supply. Basically this is a sealed chemical flask with inert gas at low pressure inside, which ignites and glows nicely near CW or semi-CW Tesla coil (no pulsed coils like SGTC or DRSSTC, they will destroy these plasmaballs). Available sizes are from 5-6 cm dia. to 15-20 cm dia. spheres, tubes, ampoules and some other forms. Available gases are argon, krypton, neon, xenon, pure and combinations (with each other, organics and halogen) This particular one is xenon with organics (intense green colour), 11*20 cm size. If anybody will be interested, I'll post more of them. Link to Ebay here
Shipping from Russia (so prepare for long time waiting).

Thats pretty badass. Can I send you a klein bottle originally from one of those "dancing ballerina" toys? its glass but no visible damage and I can pack it securely.
$?
I also came up with a way (tested and working) to convert two laptop inverters of the piezo variety into a plasma globe supply. Tested with one of those neon filled bulbs and it works well, draws less than 20mA from a PP3 so enough to last an entire night of Halloween partying without running out
Catch is, I need some dual MOSFETs and they are being held up in Customs. The inverter circuit I designed is based on a modified Royer inverter but using tuning ghetto diodes (aka blue LEDs) to fine tune the circuit and keep it in acoustic resonance even with the output heavily loaded.
This is fantastic! I'm having a glass worker make me some 1.25" dia tubes of common gasses (Ne, Ar, He), but this is the best he can do. 10" x 1.25" = $90. Any other gasses from him would require an expensive investment fee (as he has no use for it) and he cannot do balls/globes at all.
I'd love to buy one of yours! Will you have any pure Xenon or Krypton ones for sale soon? I can pay immediately with PayPal.

I was thinking of using the end of a dead glass lamp, and welding the lamp base glass-to-glass, this way you can use the original glass to metal seal of the lamp

What about the method used on the Russian era GM tubes? Essentially they "fill" the glass tube with low melt alloy and join a wire to that, I think they used an indium alloy of some sort as the tubes say not to solder them.
