Using my 3d printer I was able to make a custom box for a cryogenic thermometer that I designed. It has low temperature drift. I had a reading deviation of 0.5% when I made a measurement of ice water at an ambient of 87F and 30F. The LCD thermometer can give readings from -400F to 250F and runs off of 120VAC using an adapter. I'm thinking of selling some on my website. Do people here think I have an item others would want? I would have to buy some parts in quantity to reduce the costs which I would then pass on to the customer. I was thinking of selling it for $160 which would include the AC-DC adapter, RTD probe and device. The reason I did this was:
1. to learn how to use my 3d printer 2. develop a thermometer that can give cryogenic readings accurate to 0.1F 3. pass on an inexpensive cryogenic thermometer to others
This is my 3d printer that I built from a kit. The box is built from two parts: the bottom "box" and a top panel. The top panel takes about 17 minutes to print; the box takes about 60 minutes.

Well, fall is coming and that means low humidity. That means I will start to make some liquid nitrogen again. I am waiting to get a stirling cryocooler and see if I can get a reasonable yield of LN2 using my nitrogen generator.
I am curious if anyone is interested in me documenting how I strip the cryocooler out of my purchase and set it up for simple use. I've seen some of the jerry-rigged contraptions on youtube and I think I can make something a little better with some teflon and my 3d printer.
I'm interested. I looked at buying a unit, but the ones on ebay were rather expensive by the time I found out about them. I also see the units hacked about, the temp sensors tend to fail and then unit starts trying to bash themselves to bits. It doesn't inspire confidence.

Looking at a $1000 price tag for shipping an $300-ish superfilter with the cryocooler, i don't tend to contemplate how to set one up... :( But i don't mind dreaming about it. :)
