Have you had any insulation issues using the inductors? I have a current Marx-type impulse generator in the works and I'm already knee-deep in parts so it's too late to turn back and only a matter of time.
I have given up on searching for proper high voltage resistors so I've gone to winding inductors, but I am not aware what, if any, arcing/insulation issues exist on these as information is quite slim. I can only think of two Marx-style impulse generators on the 'web that use inductors and no issues were presented, but that doesn't mean they do not exist.

I wouldn't really worry about it, considering that our tc secondaries can handle sparks that are (in some cases) 3x as long as the coil itself... Adamantly that is different, (since the sparks are growing to be that long, not high enough of a voltage to spark that far) but...

I have in fact considered using inductors, but someone here (Steve?) warned me that some care is required to avoid creating resonant circuits by accident, and thereby overvolting the capacitors. Not sure how much of an issue this in in practice, but since measurements around Marxes are difficult to perform, the first sign of something going wrong would be dead capacitors. Other sources on the net also point out possible difficulties, so I think I better stick with resistors, the 5W ones I have obtained seem to hold up quite well.
