Plasma, aspect ratio is generally just a distraction ... are you satisfied with only increasing the resolution vertically?
PS. we're really screwed in the EU as far as directional wlan antennas go ... in the US there is basically no limit on EIRP, you just have to reduce 1 Watt of actual power down by 1dB for every 3 dB of gain over 6 dBi in your antenna. In the EU ... 125 mW period :/
could you do component (720p) over 3 transmitters? or add amplifiers to a consumer wireless HDMI transmitter set? there are some pro solutions for movie makingand broadcast but they are kind of expensive.

To give some background to any interested... I initially got the idea from watching YT videos. I noticed that if I have my YT setting to, say, 360p, and I watched the vid in large screen, the quality is much lower as compared to the small screen view (I refer to the pic attached).
So, why can't I, as a very unrefined example, take two low quality cams, tape them on top of one another so that one films above the horizon, the other films below the horizon, feed the two camera signals through two cheap ANALOG tx/rx setup, and shrink the received image to fit a screen, i.e display the two cams split screen style and have 2x the quality.

Should work, although you have to be careful with bandwidth.
Another way to reduce bandwidth is to use a colour camera, partially decode the Y/C output and then sequence that into R/G/B frames which essentially decreases the temporal resolution without affecting spatial.
