Update, the Hoodmicro won't program the 14pin devices, but the RCD will... Wierd.

McFluffin, how do you get the JDM to work on the serial adaptor? Everywhere I've read says that it won't work. What do you do?

Thanks for your replies everyone. I've settled on the PICkit 2 Debug Express. It has USB and in-circuit debugging at a fairly sensible price.
