That is what I do with my MOTS! I heat them up, and then put them in a tail with pure paraffine wax. Paraffin wax is an excellent electrical insulator, with an electrical resistivity of between 10^13 and 10^17 ohm metre!

My MOTs have gotten hot to the point that when plastic touched their shells it melted and smoked. I spray painted them with engine enamel so, thats okay! Even mounted them to 1/2" plate of AL...

Why would anyone need to pot one of those in wax? It's not like you need to supress corona, the voltage is too low for that. It seems like it would just trap heat and cause it to build up.
Also, doesn't paraffin tend to pull away from the windings when it solidifies? It shrinks a great deal when it hardens.

MOT’s are designed to start saturating at %60 power to protect the magnetron. This means heat will start to migrate out of MOT. Wax is going to melt with our heavy hands on the Variac indeed. The best way to keep the MOT cool is to place them in oil and also insulating from air if running them above their rated voltage in series. Have been running MOT’s (Series and parallel) hard for three years with no issue on Quadzilla.
