A subtle gotcha indeed. If I understand right, the accelerometer reads 1g when you test it on the bench, but that is only because the bench is applying "lift" to it and preventing it from plummeting to the centre of the earth.

This kind of "lift" is very stable and predictable, but I suppose you can't rely on the same from an aircraft. Imagine if the engine fails, then it will freefall towards the ground and the accelerometer will read zero in all axes.

I believe the mathematical argument is, that if the aircraft is managing to stay in the air, the lift vector must be equal and opposite to the gravity vector on average. Something of a circular argument, because if your IMU loses track of things, the craft is unlikely to stay in the air much longer smile

You may have found it already and it doesnt seem like anyone has posted the link but since I pressume this is for an autonoums vehicle Link2 <--- go there the have a shop that has verious IMU devices, plus its entirely devoted to people with autonumous vehicles, air and land, as well as ALL the calculations and physics involved, and as for you using the Stm32f good luck I got burnt out with the stm8s series after all the reinstalling after fixing computer stuff and after hearing how strick the licensing is for the IDE and I haven't had the motivation to use my stm32f nor have I found a use for it.

One last thing since your worried about proccessing speeds...I've seen guys build acrobatic quads using an atmega2550.... and other 8-bit mcus.

I never said you had to join up there I as just giving you a rather large repository, besides somethines it help to be part of different groups, I like 4hv still to, its just 4hv (IMO) is more for discussing electronics and HV stuff with a lot of very smart fellow HV enthusists, howerver when It comes to Laser, arduino, UAV's, or RC stuff I go else its not because I think nobody here is not knowledgable its just more helpful to use a site that is aimed more in the direction of your questions, kinda like seeking out a nuerologist for brain issues rather then just asking your family physician, its not that you one is wrong and the other is right, its jsut one has more insight into a specific field.

I did recall reading that the MEMS gyros are very sensitive to temperature as well, so you need to compensate for that.

Ive already figured out how to clean up and figure out rotation and there for angular rates.
