Check out what I found stashed away at work today. This probably won't be all that exciting to most people but I'm actually interested in antique electrical engineering books and collect them. 95% of these books are electrical engineering, and dated between 1900-1920

I went a bit nuts and brought them all upstairs. Got a few odd looks! Probably a few of these were even read by Tesla himself smile

The ones which interested me the most are 6 books by Charles Proteus Steinmetz, in very good condition:

Lots of dust/sand included with them...never got so filthy handling books!

Are you a quick reader?

I think that he easiest way to store them is on display as a feature,
behind glass locked doors, the key to which is somewhere...
... 'borrowble' stuff on the open shelves :)

P.S. just looked at the 'photo again....that's a lot of books!
how to know if one is/will be valuable (enjoyment/history/cash) ?

Very cool, the early 1900's was an exciting time for EE's.

If I were you, I'd put them back before someone complains about dust, mildew,
and things that may be in the book bindings or pages, alive or dead.

A school I worked at had a storeroom full of books that needed a near hazmat
clean out crew and disposal service.

They threw out all the manuals and course books for a lot of stuff they sold me
a while later. When I went to get the books, the room was empty ! frown

Humbug! Get out the Tesla coil and disinfect them with ozone, the original authors would approve.

I love these old books. Are there any by Craggs and Meek in there? Their "High Voltage Laboratory Technique" sells for over $100.

I believe Steinmetz invented the phasor diagram for AC circuit analysis, so you may have the book that introduced it to the world.

Steinmetz gave us the law of hysteresis.

His patent for a low-loss induction furnace looks interesting as well:

haha, my work colleagues already think I'm completely crazy, that wouldn't make it any better cheesey

I'm going to slowly catalogue them over lunchtimes, so I'll see if there are any by that author. Not sure if work want to keep them or not, I originally got them out to try and find some more detailed info on magnetic amplifier configurations, but all the books turned out to be a lot older than we thought they were.

As for them being worth a lot, I did wonder so checked a few on abe/amazon, but they don't seem to be worth much unless you have the first edition.
