Haloween coil
secondary: 4.5 inch dia, 20 inch tall
primary: .25 inch copper pipe
tank capacitor: 38 nF bottle caps
power supply: selfmade pig running at about 1800 watts(11kV)
sparkgap: mutiple static gap
max length around 48 inches(measured)
*note the arcs were reatching past teh point of measurement but they didnt land so we could'nt measure*

another shot, this one makes the coil look rather menacing

Here's my first coil. TO be honest, I didn't really know what I was doing half the time but hey, it fired up right away without a hitch! Still works reliably. Although it's a 15kV 30mA NST coil, I doubt it's very efficient. But as a first coil, I'm pretty satisfied.

This is my 6 inch coil and upgrades to a museum coil originally made by Stan Deyo about 20 years ago. It runs on a 5kVA pole pig with an ARSG in a faraday cage and gets used most days. Very neat construction by Stan.
My changes were to:
1 Replace the secondary with 6 x 32 inches with 1280 turns (previously 6 x 30 with 400 turns).
2 Replace the primary (previously 3 turns) now tapped at 8 of the 13 turns. A double layer primary was made due to the space constraints.
3 Use a larger topload of a 12 x 29 inch toroid with a smaller 8 x 20 toroid beneath it.
4 Add my Cornell Dubilier MMC capacitor of 45 nF to the existing long-lived mylar capacitor (total 89 nF).
5 Run the motor from 200v DC (previously 180 V).
6 Fit low profile strike rails.
7 Use an inductive ballast (below) instead of the resistive one.

Shown here with the old mylar caps, ARSG and the new primary/secondary.

Peter

... and it works - with about double the spark length. Shown inside the Faraday cage.

ive made a pretty small table top coil though i have no pictures of it here are the details:

primary: 7.5kv-30ma NST, 0.008uf mmc, 1/2" variable gap drilled into cardboard tape roll

primary coil: 3t multi-strand wire (awg10) from a computer extention cord flat pancake

secondary: 800t awg36 enameled copper 1"wide x 4.5"tall

topload: 2"iron toroid

results: 4.8"arcs and 2.5" streamers
ill add pictues when i finally get a digi cam pictures finally here

I ran my mini TC again tonight, and attempted to take a picture of it running, except my digital camera really didnt like it. I managed to get one decent pic (seen below) but not of it reaching the longest streamer length it had reached tonight. The record it set tonight was just over 10 inches. In the pic they are about 9 inches. (The TC is running on 108 watts)

First; here is my pride and joy. This coil uses an oil filled secondary. A full sized spec. poster can be seen at:

My latest project comes from the "Sue's Hall of Shame" files. I have not posted these in my online album yet, so I will post them here. This is my my SSTC that has gone through many changes, and the only progress I have made so far is that I ditched the antenna, and the MOSFETs don't blow up any more. I plan on trouble shooting my design using Dan's circuit. I am going to replace my stuff with his stuff a section at a time until the sparks get huge, and then I will know where I messed up. If I get up to the point where I replace my H bridge with his, and I still get no improvement, then I will know it's time for a new secondary.
