Hi, my first post.
Last 6 months I've been working in my spare time on my first coil. I've taken lots of pictures of the construction, which may be helpful for other coilers. The pictures can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sitelab/sets/72157605931875044/
Your comments are welcome.
update 090505: The coil is powered by an NST of 12kV/16mA. The coil has 10 primary windings and 900 windings on the secondary coil. It has been tested now with 2 different designed static spark gaps.

can i add my tesla too? i don't have a pic but a movie of it its primairy is 18 turns. is secundary is 450 turns. and 18cm high. its diameter is 2,5 cm. powered by a flyback driven by ne555 :P i am pumping 29 volts treu it. i dont know how many amps. in case of the sstc same set-up only no flyback, and no caps (big ones i don't know the values ) and no spark gap (spark gap is adjustable) 20 to 200 mhz running i don't know where it is exactly.

Hello! New coiler here.. 59 year old Utahn. The first one I built was back in 1967 and wasn't very successful! My new SGTC has just been built. It uses a 12 KV 60 MA NST and a Maxwell .025 UF 50 KV pulse cap. I wound the secondary on plastic pipe with litz wire. It has a top section of smaller diameter. Using a simple spark gap, I got good 20 inch streamers with minimal tuning. I used the classic tesla java calculator to good advantage. I'm using a rather steep conical primary of 1/4" copper tubing. The torus top load is a foil tape covered foam water toy section, then burnished with a spoon. It was a lash up on the bench. When first powered, the coil sought out a bicycle that I have hanging from the ceiling, with streamers shooting from the bike to the wall. Now I am installing it on a retro lamp table with proper safety considerations, such as a strike rail, Acrylic shields around the primary parts, etc. It's lots of fun, and I'm looking forward to getting some good pictures of various discharges. I also have a half-built VanDeGraaf that I hope to complete soon.
