The Turbo Triodal Tesla-2

This is my old Tesla-2 spark gap coil, that I decided to max out with some help from Alan Sharp and Richie Burnett.

We added an extra 25nF @ 20kV of commercial pulse caps in parallel with the existing 12.5nF cap, and installed Alan's huge "triodal" topload made from multiple salad bowls from Woolworths and Ikea.

We then turned the power supply and gap motor up as far as they would go and watched the fun :-/ We shut it down when it started striking the tank capacitors as we were worried about damaging them.

The single MOT, multiplier stack and charging chokes seemed fine even though they were designed for 1kW and probably were supplying nearer 3kW. The gap electrodes melted, the gap motor bearings failed, the secondary was burnt by racing arcs, and we blew several 5 amp fuses.

All good fun

Then my next coil

This is the vttc type
I've build this coil to test the GU-21b tube and to test my skils in building a vttc.
This is a coil whit far to litle turns on the sec.
A to much power on the prim.
This picture shows the testing stand...

The Gu-21b can take as much as 10 Kw
It runs on a filament of 8.5 volts at 150amp. rms
