hey. i really have come to like spice simulations now that i have learned to use them, but it seems that pspice has been lost over the ages(2000?). i want to download the student version, or the full one if possible, but there are no places that offer downloads. i tried: Link2 piratebay and more, but no luck. any help? even if anyone can make their files available, it would help me a lot. thanks.

I did a google search for :
pspice student cadence

To find these pages on the first page of results :

What's wrong with these?

What is the problem with student edition PSPICE?
Google pspice immediately served up this link: Link2

I have also done plenty of simulations with the free SPICE from Linear Technology.

p.s. I miss my student edition MATLAB. It cost $80 at a campus bookstore in about 2000, but won't run on any Windows newer than NT.

The demo version of Simetrix Link2 is very capable. I use it a lot. Excellent convergence, good libraries, nice interface. I've just designed a 50MHz discrete amplifier with it.

sorry, i didn't mean to imply any theft of software, i am only looking for the available student version. actualy, i found Link2 this link, and didn't see the download link down at the bottom there. as for the other link(Pinky's Brain) i don't know where you found that, because i just put "pspice student cadence" into google again, and it doesn't show up anywhere on the top two pages.

but enough of the complaining tongue the electronics lab download works fine.

and, yes, i like ltspice too. it's what i have been using previously.

Kluge smith, if you miss Matlab, why not try Octave for Windows?

..or you could install virtualbox and install winNT or 98 on a virtual machine.

#KlugeSmith

... or you try Ipython+numpy+scipy+matplotlib

Things index from zero! And you get arrays and matrices, not just matrices. Native on 'doze and 'nux. If you google "matlab python", you can find lists of functions which do the same thing. Then once you get into python, there are so many other libraries to play with.

I really like Simetrix, for ease of use and a cool look, but the free edition is so small, only 150 nodes. That usually means one opamp model will simulate, but two won't. I'm trying to convert to LTSpice (also free, with unlimited circuit size), but the interface is so piggin' ugly it's not a pleasant experience. TI are doing their flavour of me2 free spice as well, which I've not heard reviewed yet.

I went to an LTSpice seminar hosted by the guy that wrote it. He was so enthusiastic about the maths in it I didn't have the heart to tell him just how awful the UI was.
I've looked at the TI one, but it seems to be limited to TI devices.
I've yet to hit the node limit with Simetrix, but then I mostly use it for discrete designs - biggest so far had 28 MOSFETs in it (my first foray into chip design). I have modeled a 3 opamp design with no issues.

2Spoons:

LTSpice is EXTREMELY GOOD and should not be dismissed because of the bad UI. (Actually its not that bad)

LTSpice is not only free, but blows away PSPICE as far as simulation goes. And better yet, there are many models for the LT switching drivers in there which makes power supply design that much better. Good luck with getting any power supply ICs in PSPICE.

And where LTSpice really shines is its ability to do power supply simulations in the time domain. PSPICE simply cannot do these effectively and any type of time domain anaylsis in PSPICE will take days to complete, if you're lucky enough to get everything to converge properly.

When i worked for Lockheed, all the analysis guys all switched from PSPICE to LTSpice. It was just that much better.
