I wouldn't worry about that. Any magnetic coupling between them should be negligible.

You can always use the core of another flyback transformer and wind the series inductor on it. It has a gap and has the same ratings of the flyback transformer core.

I built a very reliable adjustable UH power supply based around the zvs circuit and i haven't had a single mosfets failure which is surprising since it as regulated by a PWM with only small input and output caps at around 40 volts input

Ok, quick update. I've replaced the toroid with a same-sized iron powder one (which is 47uH), and so far the circuit is running beautifully at 24V. The size and current of these arcs is really impressive compared to anything I've ever had out of a flyback before.
