So it was suggested in a previous thread, so the question is do we really want one? And if so who wants to host? Or does everyone want to chip in like $2 a month for a dedicated server?

I think a 4hv minecraft server would be a great idea, we could even maybe work on a redstone logic project as a community!
My minecraft server currently is running on my main desktop with 20GB of RAM (24 if I replace my motherboatd), an i7-920 (watercooled, currently not overclocked as I never tweaked it for the new RAM), and the server files are on a 4x1TB RAID 5 array that is backed up once a week to a 2TB low speed hot swap drive.
I will open it up if only a few people are interested, if a large number of people are interested then maybe not. I would love to allow the entire community onto my server but my upload speed is a bit low right now and it is my personal machine as well. I also have two HP DL380 rackmount servers unused right now, each has a working 10/15k RPM drive (I think one is a 18.6GB, the other a 34.2GB). The only thing they would need is RAM and a place to put it. Co-location with these servers might be easier than renting a dedicated server. There are many datacenters in my area and if I can get some cheap RAM (DDR2 IIRC) I would be glad to donate the boxes.
i dont have an account but if there is gonna be a 4hv server, i'd join! sorry for no capital letters i am using DS internet browser and the interface is pretty strange.

For those of you without paid accounts I have a batch file that lets you choose your name. Put it in the folder that contains your .minecraft folder. Then rename your minecraft.jar to minecraft 1.0.0.jar and run the batch file with "mc 1.0.0".

I'm interested! I think we'll have to wait and see how many people are on board, and see where to go from there.
