Thank you for the ref to Nicholsons work. His model is a lot more detailed. Ok, I asked for a reality check. smile
The simple transmission line does explain Seibts coronas and gives very roughly frequency ratios and a reason, why there are multiple resonances.

I have also driven one of my test coils at its quater wave resonance at one end and verified little or no voltage at the other terminal end. It is fairly difficult because it is easy to add capacitence to the coil and "disturb" its resonance. The theory is sound and observable.

Thank you for the confirmation. I had another look at Ncholsons work. He describes the secondary as a non uniform transmission line. Link2

A uniform transmission line as I described it leaves quantitatively much to be desired and shows just the basic effects.

Something interesting that you can observe while looking for resonances is that for each resonance there are voltage maxima and minima along the coil. In the fundamental mode at frequency f0 the voltage rises continuously along the coil. In the second ressonance, a bit below 3f0, there is a maximum and a null with another maximum at the top. If you slide a finger along the coil, you will see that there is a maximum effect (on the measurement) at the maximum and little effect at the minimum. In the next resonance, close to 5f0 there are three anternating maxima and two minima that can be located, and so on.
