Yes. The HV grounds on what I perceive to be Pin 8 (could be Pin 3 if I start at the other end) but using the previous drawing as a guide it would be Pin8..

if we only new which coils whould be best for your voltage. im thinking first you confirm the pins count from the lowest left on my pic, clockwise the the right... then, youl have to connect your driver at low current, and see what the output is...

just dont let your lead acids make any copper wires glow bright red, that would be bad....

yeah in was thinking 4 an 7 too, maybe a small ancillary coil would be of a lower voltage, and so more useful for your purposes.

Think I'm officially obsessed!

Ok I give up. I tired windings down to 2 then back up to 20. No more room for more winds, arc got smaller as winds reduced. Best up at 20 about 1.5 CM arc

Switched the Pots out to 50k and removed the 1k resistor. No effect, possibly slightly smaller arc.

Tried 24volts. no difference.

I give up on this circuit (for now, I'll come back 'cause it pisses me off:) )

I am going to try the ZVS Mazilla circuit and see what happens. After that I will rebuild the 555 version. Even if this one works I'll rebuild it from scratch again because something is obviously off.

Thanks guys

arrrgh.
