Patrick and Antonio, nice looking setups and I'll probably get hooked and try something more elaborate like one of yours after I get this electro kinetic deice off the ground :)

Will this suffice for now just to get his project going? It comes from the HV Wiki attached to this forum.

youll be in neck deep and obsessive soon enough.

i was tryinbg to find Jochens K's late 90's 555 timer circuit for flybacks and iggies, but the wayback machine is not cooperating.

as for Alex's comments i must disagree, my best PS experience came from a single transistor driven flyback, using the internal primary. long lived device too. very long sparks and hot arcs.

If you have a flyback with internal diode(s) (most do)
then the highest output voltage can be achieved with a conventional 'flyback' circuit (one on/off transistor switch)
Any symetrical drive waveform (zvs, half- or full-bridge etc.) will over-stress the internal diode(s)

How did you get it to last more than 10 minutes without the MOSFET failing? every driver using a single MOSFET I have tried has resulted in shorted MOSFET's.

This includes using designs that have protection on the MOSFET such as zeners on the gate, fast diodes in reverse across the MOSFET, small capacitors across the primary coil and MOSFET ect all fail.

I've had great results with this schematic Link2 I've beat the crap out of it and it refuses to die. Also for a single mosfet i have not beaten it output wise. Have run it at 70 volts or so input with an irfp250 for decent periods of time with little to no heating I definetly reccommend it.

Thanks for that, will defiantly give it a try at some point.

ill draw up a schematic, give me a minute.
