The assumed primary measure 240Ohms, There are no sparks with a small cap (a 275vac 1<uF, and also 50v 2200uF)

What do the 240Ohms mean, that's to high to be a primary in it?

Yes it looks too high to me, even though it's a magneto. It might be solid state, or just require higher voltage to work this way, than expected.

I don't know much about solid state magneto's, so perhaps someone else could help there (what would the input prong do in that case?)

BTW, have you measured the secondary resistance?

Also, try measuring primary resistance in both directions, and see if they are same. If not, it's likely solid state.

Primary measures 245Ohms and 300Ohms, and HV to primary tab measures 2.5kohm.

Hmm, most likely there is some sort of solid-state circuit inside then. In that case the prong will be for hooking up the killswitch that shuts off the engine.

There is a switch to start the chainsaw yes.

I was just messing with the coil and I put 20v+ to the tab and the negative to the HV side, and it creates a 1KV+ pulse on my voltmeter. the core has no part when I pulsed it.

I'd love to open it, but it's epoxied badly like a flyback.

Would a zvs drive it somehow?, The iron core slides around too, so I'm trying to get the core out to put ferrite in there, to wind a primary then it might work...

I bet your voltmeter is not too happy about now.
Also, normal voltmeters don't work too well with pulses or high frequency.
That 1Kv reading might be just the voltmeter glitching.

It's not bad it works, I was just pulsing it with HV, but very low power HV, volt meter is still OK.

Here are a couple of references about transistorized magnetos, which don't use breaker points or an ignition cam on the crankshaft. They bring out a wire from the low-voltage winding, but that's only for the ignition-kill switch.
I would urge caution, to avoid damaging the Darlington transistor with inappropriate connection of external power.

I thank you, I was trying to find info about SSM's , thanks.

After reading, I think I can only drive it via flywheel magnets, so I will forget that, and buy a normal ignition coil sometime.

If I understand well, iggy coils driven with mains and a capacitor works with inductive kick, so if I I do this with a flyback will it work?
