I tried to make a ZVS from junk.

It is hard to see but it looks like you have gotten your MOSFET's hooked up wrong.

How so?

The schematic you gave me in my other thread look OK, and I think I have hooked it right, explain how it is wrong, thanks :)

Well, it's fairly impossible to tell if something's wrong or not from the picture you have send us. I thought you should be able to follow that MSpaint drawing well enough! :P

Make this your next challenge: try rebuilding the circuit small and tidy enough so you can photograph it nicely from above:

Some hints:

- Spread the mosfet legs so you can solder more easily on them

- before even starting to build the circuit, solder the zeners (and 10k resistors if you wish) across G-S (outer mosfet legs). Make sure zener cathode points towards the gate... then forget about those.

Now, connect the sources together by a piece of wire. this will be your - supply terminal.

- Solder a 470ohm resistor to gate of each mosfet, and hook their other ends together. This goes to+ supply.

Just add an inductor, flyback, a resonant cap and connect to mosfet drains (hope that doesn't need more elaboration!)

As others stated a small heatsink (with insulating pads underneath mosfets!) might be good idea.

Good luck,

Marko

P.S. Just noticed your power supply... well it might not necessarily be shorting, it might just be overloading as well. Try to double the number of primary turns on your flyback and try again!

Don't insist on this awful construction method of wiring the parts without fixing them on a solid base. The possibility of a disaster because you are not looking at that short-circuit when you are fixing another is enormous.

Your 1N4007 diodes are too slow...

Well I don't think it's going to work, so I'm waiting for the post office to open to send s postal order to Tom, for the zvs built by him.

Why not? You should get an oscillation and some arcs, though perhaps not as extreme power levels as lower voltage mosfets would do. Just make sure to wire the circuit correctly!

IIRC some people used 1N4007's in this circuit and they worked - at flyback frequencies losses aren't that extreme. They'd probably better be replaced by UF version later though.

I gave up already, but not to worry as I'm having one delvierd, so I can learn from that built circuit in person.
