Does anyone know where I could get a NST rated for 240v? Or should I just buy an 120v NST and get a 120v to 240v transformer?

You could do that. Another thing to do would be to get a pair of NSTs and run the primaries in series. That way if you need the extra power later, you have it.

... go to a neon sign shop and ask them? I mean their transformers would obviously be 240v.

It's pretty easy to go to a neon shop and buy one, or if you're really lucky like me you find your first NST in a junkyard for $7

Indeed, I'm in Melbourne and I just walked into a neon sign shop and asked about NSTs and walked out with a FREE 12kV / 60mA 240V one.

@XravenorX
I am also in Melbourne. Would you be able to tell me where the store is located and it's name?

It's called "Cole's Neon Shop" at factory 9, 35 Power Rd, Bayswater. Phone is 9729 7175. Its a small one-man shop, and its only open a few days a week, but if you explain that you're interested in HV and ask about NST's you'll probably get one fairly cheap. I got mine for free, because it was an ancient transformer he was using for testing neon bulbs, but he said he can order in most lighting transformers.

In heidelberg there is a shop where you can buy them new. Fairly expensive though compared to free! I paid $140 for a 15kV60mA some years back.
