Yeah you're right about that, i've also read that only Monitor flybacks have capacitor as a part of the internal rectifier circuitry, perhaps due to the higher operation frequencies.

The round thing is a capacitor. In most monitor flybacks there is a semi-cylindric part in the casing. The capacitor is inside. The other ground pins shall be connected to the ground pin, otherwise you have high-voltage loose inside the casing.

Would it function as a voltage doubler in this configuration?
(presumably that long thing at the top is the diode, or is it a resistor?)

I've found a single scrappy circuit diagram of a monitor LOPT, and it does indeed show an internal capacitor strapped across the focus output, presumably to reduce ripple and improve voltage regulation.
