Although hv disk ceramics work in a sgtc they aren't as food as polypropylene..
not such a 'snappy' discharge.

Huh? Does
4pcs 2200 pF 20 kV, $ 9.99, free shipping from mainland China
plainly beat
4pcs 2200 pF 25 kV, $12.99, free shipping from Hong Kong?
How about in applications requiring a minimum of 22 kV, as in the OP?

Your practical advice about SGTC's is respected and appreciated. But personally, I prefer the crunchier capacitors for dessert.

im getting a lot of conflicting information regarding ceramic vs polypropylene caps for a SGTC. could you please elaborate a little more? this is my 1st TC and trying to get everything right as much as i can. im looking for reliability. i also heard ceramic heats up to fast. please shed some light on this for me. also, peak voltage is 21.210kv how much tolerance should i give for safe operation? TY!

Please for the love of your favorite deity DO NOT waste money on crappy Chinese capacitors for your tank cap. They aren't even always good for their rated voltages in air, let alone for reactive power handling. In particular, the endless "High Voltage Tesla Capacitors" you find on Ebay aren't worth squat.
Invest in a few nice CDE942's from EVR's site (or Rell if you are buying in bulk). They'll last you forever.
