Have you tried swapping the connections to the feedback coil round?

I've not looked up the base voltage for the Fairchild BJT, but if it is different to the 2N3055 that may also be a problem (different resistor values may be needed)

270 and 22 Ohms should be ok if everything else is ok, though.

The transistor is this I think

Link2

I just blew one of them up, I have 2 left, shrapnel went in my eyes :(

Well, the emitter-base voltage and base current are pretty similar to the 2N3055, so I imagine it should work.

Is it mounted on a heatsink?

Have you tried swapping the feedback coil connections?

How do I swap the feedback coil that don't make sense to me, thanks for helping!

Yes it's mounted on one fo my CPU heat sinks, copper heat pipes with a good fan.

I set one up, and I measured the voltage on the base and it was 0.86 volts and on the collector was something like 11 odd volts, The emitter was around the same too. It looks like I've done it right nothing is hot, noting seems bad at all :(

The feedback winding has two ends, just swap them round. It is the usual reason why these circuits don't work, if everything else is OK.

OK, thanks I'm going to set the circuit up and I'll report back, thanks!

So the botton of the feedback goes to base, but use the top instead.

I tried putting the top of the feedback to collector and bottom to the voltage divider, but it didn't work :(

You just switch the two ends round.

It depends which way it is wound round the core, whether it is a left hand helix, or right hand helix.

I know I have wired it right, I did have trouble with the two resistors but I understand it now, it is a voltage divided, and it should work now, but it doesn't :(

Your circuit is a classical oscilator and it works very well. It will provide you hf and high voltage. Let us know more about what you are doing....
How many turns the feedback coil have ?? Wire size ??

How many turns the primary coil have ?? Wire size ??

Some Pictures??

Ash Small advise you to just switch the two ends of the feedback coil. This is very important in this type of oscilator. Try to invert the teminals of the feedback coil.

A 12V 100W car headlight bulb conneted between the + of the poweer suppy and the + of your circuit will limit the current to 10A, avoiding blow up your transistor. Them you may adjust the 27 ohm resistor for best output...

The Secondary may have open or short circuited turns, preventig the oscillations. Pictures ..

Try it

Regards

Newton
