..... you are reading the small print on a box with a £32.97 microwave oven in it in Sainsbury's, and when your girlfriend asks what you're doing, you reply "I'm looking to see if it says whether it's conventional, or inverter", and when she says "but you don't need a microwave" you reply that you want to buy it to take it to bits.....(It happened this afternoon).

....when your girlfriend informs you that she's pregnant, and you say to her, "That's nice, but have you seen the awesome high voltage capacitor I bought on Ebay?"!

....when you've spent many hours rewinding a flyback transformer, and then realize that you used non-insulated bare copper wire!

....when your neighbors complain that your Tesla Coil is causing interference on their TV's and radios, you tell them not to worry, and promise them that you will share the Nobel Prize money with them when you win it.

....when you've spent your entire food budget on electronic parts.

....when you start to have nightmares about not being able to log-in to 4hv.org!

When the only thing you can really think about is electronics and how to improve them...

...when while you are taking out the garbage from your "lab", you can remember the projects that created them.

...When you get strange looks and comments from the guys at the scavenging yard after you load another smashed screen LCD TV into your car.

...When your friends at work mock you because you salvaged a length of discarded drainpipe with the words "Just right for a secondary"

...When the same friends take bets that you will come to work with at least one injury related to your projects.

...When you phone in "sick" because you are at the crucial stage of an HV project

...When you get to work and find in addition to your actual work a pile of dead flat panels "rescued" from nearby skips because someone thinks they can get a monitor fixed for free.

...When you hear a rumour that a neon sign shop is closing and immediately go down there just in case.

...When your garage refuses to fix your car because it is full to bursting point with electronics junk

... when your friends think you're super smart because you can hook up a hv transformer even though you're pretty average in everything

This ^^ Its annoying to be called a genius all the time because you understand electricity
I feel the same way. Just because I am in electronics class and have to carry a box with electronics stuff all day, and just because I mess with it during class, and just because I say I build tesla coils, everyone thinks I am a genius and I am like WTF? O_O I don't even have straight A's!

...When your at work, and see your boss's messy desk. You relise its a 2ft wide, 5ft tall cart on wheels, with a slanted panel that locks closed, and can swing open.

First thought to mind: I want...That would be a really really nice control panel after a paint job!!!
Link2

Tranny below, Buttons/Switches/Levers/Knobs on the slant, and meters on the back shelfs. New paint, bottom area gets metal plates, wallah. Control panel!

...when street lights go out every time you walk by them on campus, likely out of fear. (happens every night atleast once, it's kind of freaky)
...when labels like "warning" and "lethal" become synonyms for "fun" and "exciting" to you.
...when you don't pay attention to your math class's lecture on 'not-a-knot cubic interpolating splines' to write replies to 4hv threads.
The first happens to me all the time, but sometimes they go on, and sometimes off. This one light when I was in middle school last year, it isn't a motion sensor, but every time I walk by it, it goes on. Multiple times has the lights gone off when I walk by them elsewhere.

The second one also applies to me. ITS DANGEROUS! Shouts person one. But thats what makes it fun! I say.

The third, well, my math class is right after electronics, so when the teacher is droning on teaching us how to solve equations with three variables, 10% of my mind just looks up and copies whatever she writes, 90% is looking down at my electronics box, trying (and succeeding) to get his assigned circuit to work. :P
