very cool zilipoper I see why you are interested in my thread to. the tube in my avatar is a GU-39b-1
what made you use a pulse tube? it seems logical to me. how do you make it work because there must be some sort of oscillations going on. I looked at the data sheets and it doesn't seem like it will handle a lot of power but it is as big around as my gu39b. would you like to give us a basic idea of how you are using it, maybe a schematic

Congratulations sir, this is fairly epic. So VTTC's can indeed be ran in "QCW" mode after all! Also at much crazier energies than igbt coils do, at cost of lower break rate...
Now you just need to figure out how to control the rampup of primary current (perhaps an old-fashioned pulse forming network?) so you can grow your swords to epic lengths.

Phillip great work, do you think that a SSVC is a sapirior topoligy over a QCWDRSSTC setup? it would seem that it is from the size if your sword sparks. The fact that the tube can handle a higher bandwidth would help verses slow fets for the 350 to 500khz that is needed. Has the tube ever flashed? The fact that you have high 20kv for only a moment may keep it from flashing what do you think

Hi zillipoper,
Any news on the monstrous 7kJ coil? Are you going to use this existing secondary or are winding a new one? Perhaps with some QCW-like current control the old one could work well too without exploding to pieces? (something simple like sensing secondary base current and feeding this to a comparator which turns the tube on/off while comparing this to a ramping reference?
