OK, so we have a good laugh / good moan about regulations about chemicals and radiation sources and wotnot which are completely innocuous in the hands of hobbyists.
But I've often wondered about this source of potential to cause mayhem. Although I've flown this sort of thing myself, I'm a little more sympathetic to the authotiries on this one.

We all discussed this at the 2011 mission 6 International Aerial robotics Competition (Grand Forks, ND), and we hoped that when it happened it wouldnt mean restrictions on us buying our machines.
Once again authority rears up --- and freedom will yield, all in the name of "public safety".

Paranoia is the greatest tool in the "arsenal of fear" that governments can use to gain and consolidate power, like the patriot act... give us these powers or the boogie man will get you.

I don't see how they could possibly hope to control this, you don't need specialist RC parts ... sure having purpose made servos, RC and engines makes things a bit easier but bodging all that isn't too hard. Unless they want to make all hobby electronic equipment prohibited there is fuck all they can do, except to try to not piss people off too much.

And he was going to use the GPS autopilots that anyone can buy, thus he wouldnt need line-of-sight-to-target or have to reamain on scene, the waypoints make his machines essentially autonomous. So he could pre position himself to use the conventional AK's and handgrenades to kill survivors/first responders. (so he's using an unconventional method to increase the lethality of a traditional attack. As the british would do to germans in WW1.)
The governemnt will try to control our hobbies for sure, its for our own good. After all a terrorist/communist could be under your bed right now!
Barbara boxer (D) and Diane Fienstein (D) tried to control the purchase of rocket motors after 9/11 here in California. It was attempted in the name of "public safety".

They're not going to stop determined, resourceful people no matter what they do...they'll have to ban everything.
The best way for them to stop "terrorism" would be for them to stop terrorizing other people in other countries and start doing the jobs they're supposed to be doing.

Sorry for double posting but with new info I cant wait.
Anwar Al Awlaki is dead, he ate 18 lbs of RDX in Yemen today. Our UAV's are better then their UAV's. Unfortunatley having better UAV's wont (by itself) decide who wins wars or survives terror attacks.
6 years of UAV/drone use has proven them to be highly successful at raining death upon a chosen mark.
