OK, I'll try to make it simple.

The Cornell-Dubilier 942C20P15K capacitor (.15uF at 2000v) has a peak current rating of over 430 amps. This capacitor is well-proven in spark-gap Tesla coil applications.

If you can find another brand or type of capacitor that incorporates polypropylene dielectric, is specifically designed for high-current pulse/snubber use, uses special "self-healing" construction, and has a peak current rating of several hundred amps, then you might consider using it.

Otherwise, you're wasting your time. Many, many people have tried to find a "cheaper" alternative to the C-D caps, but with limited success.

Given a conservative MMC design, the GE 42L series and the Arcotronics C4 series (both metallized film construction) have also been used, as well as the Atcotronics A72 series (film/foil). Various IGBT snubber capacitors also have voltage and peak current ratings that look good, but these are usually more expensive than the C-D 942C caps even if purchased as used surplus.

thanQ a lot for ur help.I do appreciate that. smile smile
the only prob. that i live in EGYPT and in our market they dont sell capacitors by serial no. but according to its capacity and voltage rating. So i cant go to an electronic component shop and ask him about Cornell-Dubilier 942C20P15K capacitor !! I can just say (do u have (.15uF at 2000v) cap. ) .
add to that in Egypt almost no one is familiar with Tesla coil (i didnt meet anyone yet knows wat is TESLA COIL frown )
So i have no reference but this forum and you, thats why i am asking too many questions.
any way i will go again to market and ask for another type of capacitors . I hope i can find a good type that time.

Shady -

Since you are apparently shopping on for capacitors on eBay, just keep looking for the Cornell-Dubilier 942 series caps. These are frequently listed by severel different edBay sellers under "MMC", "Tesla coil capacitors", "Cornell-Dubilier", etc.

Is it any easier to get capacitors shipped into Egypt from a private eBay seller in the US than it is to purchase C-D capacitors directly from a C-D distributor in the US or the UK? Richardson Electronics, Allied Electronics and DigiKey Electronics are currently showing stock of the 942C20P15K-F model.

(Incidentally, the "942C20P15K-F" designation is not a "serial number", it's a model number. There are dozens of different capacitor models in C-D's 942 series, with different voltage and capacitance ratings. The 942C20P15K-F is the model most frequently used in Tesla coil MMC construction.)
