So I've been working on a small DRSSTC coil (about 6" tall) and thought it would be cool to put it on a hat with a battery pack in a backpack. The thing is, I'm not sure about grounding... I was thinking I'd have a metal plate on top of the hat, with the primary and coil on top of that so as to avoid any "head strikes". But, the whole thing will be floating. There's no way to be sure a charge will establish on the top of the coil with respect to ground/me, versus on the bottom of the coil. Is there any good way to make me not continually get shocked by the battery pack and wire discharging to my ground reference, or is this just an all around terrible idea (well, I already knew it was, but is it even hopefully possible?)

I was thinking about this, but I think there still kind of is a need for a ground in this case. The whole system would still be floating, what is to say that the driver and battery pack will stay at my human potential, instead of floating to some high voltage then discharging to me? As far as I'm picturing it, I have to be connected to the battery's negative, and if I don't want to get shocked touching anything, I also have to be close to ground potential.
I like the metal-bottomed shoes and will probably give that a try.

I made my little wearable one for Jeff Mach's Kinky Geeky event...works fine with no grounding... You got it - just create a virtual ground plate underneath everything and you'll be fine. I don't recommend touching it while it's on...unless that's what you're into. I made a video...see below:
