Also, would this idea work with higher frequencies, say, at 20 khz? or higher? I know SCR's latch on, and I don't know if capacitance would be enough to keep it on during normal operation. If it is usable with higher frequencies, then you could make a boost D/C power supply using a ZVS to supply the alternating current.

A standard phase angle controller, it really does not control voltage but rather duty cycle. Not usable for supplies which use a rectifier with filter capacitor. Also not usable for loads with eg. a PFC cap directly across the input.

well... no, it wouldn't work with stuff that normally requires A/C voltage. It'd be good for a standard power supply that most people need, like to replace lead acid batteries or ATX supplies. Plus, it would be variable allowing a wide voltage range.
