hey,
any ideas how to build a variable (not essential) 1-5kv supply, which can run from a 9v battery, and will use a very maximum of 10W? its for my tiny crt oscilloscope anode voltage.

I don't think Alf's 9V battery would last very long with a setup like that - not an ordinary PP3 one, anyhow - and, in any case, PP3 and the 10W mentioned by Alf don't really hang together, do they?

does the zvs work fine with non-flyback transformers? like ferrite e-cores and pot cores. I imagine they do, but i haven't tried. you could probably make a little hv low power transformer with those. a ccfl inverter transformer would be the easiest premade transformer
