So, back to basics perhaps my problem is more fundamental. I have added a 0.1uF Cornell Dubilier capacitor in parallel with my C2 rather than replacing it. Then I tried to calculate resonances, and I used two different programs, and both are giving quite different resonant frequencies.

I tried using TeslaMap, and JavaTC. Is there any chance that I could trouble someone to verify my coils resonance.

My secondary is a 3.5x20" (my original schematic is wrong)
32 AWG, single strand, and I believe it should be 0.008 bare wire diameter and roughly 0.0008 insulation thickness.

my primary 30 Turns around a 6" PVC 12AWG, bare wire 0.0808 insulation 0.019"

I am just getting quite the contradictory numbers, sorry for the inconvenience. I even tried just selectively tuning down the primary just turn by turn hoping I could stumble across it but not such luck. My coil is receiving power, The tube just seems to not want to oscillate.

Lastly, does my tickler coil need more turns perhaps ?

.1uf is 100nf, which is far too much to resonate at the same frequency as the secondary (for a typical secondary that size) with a primary of 10-20 or whatever turns.

Do you have any other suitable caps? Ceramic is what is usually used. The caps need to withstand high RF currents. 2nf is a typical value for a vttc this size. Doorknob capacitors are an ideal kind of capacitor for this application. Link2 A few of those in parallel would withstand the voltage, as well as the current of an 811A powered vttc.

Wait on the calculating of the primary's resonance until you have settled on a tank capacitor.

The only doorknob style capacitor I have is the one I had bought originally, and that was 30KV 190pF, so then I tried to increase my capacitance. I do however, have some ceramic disk caps, (2) 1000pF 15KV and (2) 2200pF 6KV disks.
