Hey alf, why not just build a half bridge to drive the flyback? They stay a lot cooler, and allow for more power.

hey,

umm what is a half bridge driver circuit?
sorry for my ignorance lol

thanks. Alf.

The fans in microwaves are a good source of wire. As for the half bridge circuit: Link2

hey,

yeahh i have one of those, for some reason it seems to be consistently spinning in the wrong direction :S
and i have just realised i have loads of thin wire from a vintage failed loudspeaker, i think the loudspeaker used 2 electromagnets, no permanent magnets.
i thought the wire was too thin, but i looked at it today and it seems okay.
there is 400g of it lol,

and cool, i may try that.
although i think i must build the zvs driver, as it seems wonderful lol
apart from the audio modulation problem, but i could have a seperate circuit for that, and the zvs driver for normal operation.
today i tried operating my present circuit at 36v, and i can draw a 2 inch arc! :P, it draws around 12 amps,
so this is 432 watts :O
although a lot of power is dissippated in the transistor, this is what i must build the zvs driver for :D
the arc couldnt melt tungsten could it?
cuz im using thoriated tungsten electrodes (one broken in half LOL),
and when i let it arc for more than a few seconds, the rod glows white hot, and it sparks really brightly, and smokes.
could it be the thorium or the tungsten oxidising, and the oxide burning?
because the rods are covered in gray dust afterwards...
hmm

thanks. Alf.

How many of those electrodes do you have? I'd be willing to trade some mosfets for them, as I'd like to extract the thoria.

hmm, i only have one, sorrryy,
u can buy them off ebay tho, but i think there is much more thorium in lantern mantles, cuz i dont even detect any radiation from the electrode with my geiger counter...

thx. Alf.
