Hi all,

A while back, I posted a whole lot of crap here, on my own site, and in the #hvcomm chatroom, about how I was giving up Tesla coiling. I implied (though I might never have said it outright) that the reason for this was that I couldn't get laid because women are scared off by science or something.

However, since I wrote that, I met a good few people who are nerdier than me and in happy relationships, and plenty of people who have no interest at all in science and technology but still can't get laid. So I have to admit that my original hypothesis was wrong, and I apologize to anyone who was offended by it.

I'm still not planning to exhibit at any of the UK Teslathons, and I gave up trying to beat Steve Ward's DRSSTC world record (unless anyone wants to sponsor me to beat it :P) but I'll still keep up my involvement in hobby electronics and HV.

Don't worry, you'll do fine. You wouldn't be Steve Conner without your geekiness, anyway. You cannot fight it!

Glad to have you "back" (not that you really left).

We understand... I think..

I am glad to hear that you are continuing your Tesla coil career.. (I've been lurking regularly in your "Odin..the all-fragger" thread..)

Certainly, spending all day, every day in the lab or at the workbench or in front of the computer is not going to yield that dreamed-of partner... I think that's why "nerdy" types are often heard whinging about their lack of women. This was my experience all through university. I soon learned that it is important to branch out in other areas a bit: take that foreign language class, join the bushwalking club, take a few dance lessons or photography class... It's simple probability. In order to maximise the probability of meeting the right woman, you need to be around lots of women! Nerd or non-nerd....doesn't matter. If Bill Gates could get married, so can every geek on the planet! Just takes a bit of persistence!

Hope this helps....

I think waverider has the right idea. If it weren't for weightlifting I'd still be single.

If you can scrounge up a few billion dollars, this will also help.

I cant believe you would have such a notion. Don't tell me you think you are gonna get all the babes by playing in a band? Ive been doing that for years too, and neither of the hobbies have helped me out! Mostly all of it comes down to how you act in the social arena; you must be outgoing. Of course, *you* have to put yourself in situations where you are likely to meet people (and as WaveRider said, it's not likely to happen in the lab). I personally try not to draw attention to myself at parties, and thats a problem if you are trying to meet people. Its something i will have to get over (and have been since living on a university campus). I doubt the girls look at me and go "ewww, he's probably all into science and stuff!". Unfortunately all of the ones that i actually have conversation with, already have boyfriends neutral .

Its too bad you wont be going to Thon's anymore, im sure people really enjoyed talking with you and seeing your demonstrations (i know i would have). Im guessing the reason is that its too costly? Surely you dont think they women will find out that you went to a nerdy teslathon wink . Of course i understand if you dont want to explain your actions... there is no reason you should have to.

A while back, I posted a whole lot of crap here

You didn't post crap. I posted crap a while ago, and to about the time I joined 4HV.
That involved lots of pointless posting, arguing and flaming on other forums (probably I was trying to prove something, I don't know) and usually just ending looking like an idiot.

I implied (though I might never have said it outright) that the reason for this was that I couldn't get laid because women are scared off by science or something.

This will come on it's own..

I don't think it has any

Trying smiling sometimes. If you always look like how your avatar looks, then its no wonder that you aren't getting laid.

If you want a big tip in getting laid, borrow the cutest baby or toddler you can, and take a walk in the park. When I walk with my son around town, the supermarket, or local park, you won't believe how many hot girls come up to me and start talking, mostly coming to check out how cute my son is.

Aw what a crock of shit that is. Bill Gates is a billionaire. He can have any woman he wants.
