My 50Kw pole pig's secondary and primary where aluminum wire/strapping.
I'm sure that in the case of an SGTC aluminum primarys would not work as well as copper. The more current in the primary, the longer the sparks, and the more resistance the less current. The slight increase in resistance probably doesn't make a noticeable different, though.
Luckily, javatc will calculate resonance and resistance etc for copper or aluminum.
