Hi,
I got a power triode for industrial induction heating applications, the output power is up to 40 kW, however my supply is limited to 10 kVA (25A @ 400Vac) so I can't get even near the full rating.

Do you guys have any idea about secondary & primary sizes I could use for this coil so they don't overheat? What type of conductor should I use for the primary? I'm afraid a solid conductor will overheat because of skin effect, Litz wire is hard to get/make and impossible to tap, I could also use some Cu tubing but I don't know where to get such a small tube.

What size Cu tube do you think you will need? Copper automotive brake pipe is 1/4" (~6.5mm). and can be bought by the roll.

(This is actually 3/16" (~4.5mm))

I think I would need around 4mm (but I'm still not sure). The problem is that here in Czech Republic, the smallest tube I can find is 6mm.

do you have any pictures? do you have the hole induction welder or just the tube? if you had a large hv dc cap and added it to the power supply for energy storage and run it in stacato mode

The induction heater had a fault and the tube was replaced, but the fault persisted, so the tube should be OK. I have just the tube. It's a ITK12-1 water cooled triode Link2
The coil will be run in CW mode on halfwave doubled voltage, hopefully I'll get a powerful HV transformer with a cooked HV winding so I'll rewind it to my specs (5 kV AC output).

Btw. Is that a GU-39 transmitting tetrode in your avatar? I also have one, but one of the filament wires is broken (but it still works...)

At 10 KW I don't think you will have to worry much about overheating the wire. I have a 4 KW tube coil with a primary wound with 12 gauge wire and a secondary wound with 24 gauge wire and the wire doesn't even get warm even after running for 30 seconds or so. The biggest problem I had was sparks arcing from the secondary coil to the tickler coil.

teravolt, the tube needs 5.8 volts and 145 amps. I should get a ~2kVA transformer from a friend that I'll rewind with a few turns of thick welding cable.
