 		Resistors dissipate and become warm; not a very desirable property as a ballast!
But yes, they do work.

 		i want only to check if mot works so i want an easy way..For the resistor how much Ohm and Watts must be to limit the current drawn to 8-10A?

 		Use Ohms law. What is your input voltage going to be? If it's 170 VDC, then use R = E/I to figure out the resistance you want.

 		For quick testing, use a heating element as a ballast; they can handle high temperatures without failing.
