It sounds like a tuning problem.

Seconded.
Did you move the coil into an area where there are objects closer to it than when you first tuned it and
had it running? My drsstc is picky about being moved from place to place, especially indoors. Outside
i have no issues. I once moved it from a small room into a larger one and had the same issue as you are.
No streamers unless i had a grounded target close enough to it. It would light a fluorescent bulb though. Try
laying a bulb near the base and see what it does!

Yeah, that can be a thing too. 50cm distance from toroid, almost everthing in this range changes de fres of my coil. Also, the humidity and air temperature changes it a little bit (not much for detune the coil)

I checked the Fres of the coil and you were right it changed amazed , it wasn't dramatic but just enough to detune the coil.

Thanks for your help folks smile , I need to do a few test before the coil is complete, but I think I will post a video in the Add your tesla coil thread.... shades

Yeah, my coil was detuned once, but I dont know why. It droped a few kHz, but since is already low, it was significant.

Glad you find the problem :D

Good luck ^^

It is possible that it was your primary that changed on its own. If you use film type capacitors, slight overvoltage will gradually decrease the capacitance over time, raising the primary resonant frequency. If you keep needing to retune, the solution may actually be a capacitor upgrade.
