I gave up coffee for 10 years as I was drinking too much, but then started having the odd cup on long drives (Southampton to Glasgow- 500 miles or thereabouts), then I had a girlfriend who drank coffee and didn't like making tea as well, so I had to drink coffee when it was her turn to make it - needless to say, she's no longer my girlfriend, but I do drink coffee now....and my current girlfriend drinks tea!

I also enjoy Irish coffee (with Irish whiskey), but with a decent coffee even cheap Scotch whisky is quite palatable, but, as a few others have commented, my favourite tipple is tequila, mescal preferably, straight, with spices, but the cheaper brands are pretty good with tonic and a twist of lime. (Cheech Marin suggested that one during a radio interview - anyone else remember the Cheech and Chong films?)

If I'm watching the pennies, though, a decent vodka, plus tonic and twist of lime does the job, but our local shop does some pretty good wines at very reasonable prices, so that's what I'm drinking at the moment. I usually find the Chilean reds are the best value for money, but this one is an Italian Merlot. I'm also quite partial to 'real' beer and scrumpy cider, but when a half decent bottle of red cost the same as a bottle of decent beer................. cheesey

(EDIT: for 'tonic', read 'tonic with no artificial sweetners')

(EDIT EDIT: (If I've half an excuse it's Champagne, or an equivalent. Hardy's do a pretty good Australian 'alternative' for a fraction of the price of the 'real' stuff)

Coffee goes night and day. Sometimes I like my tea with some psilocybe cubensis.

I like how my math heacher drinks coffee, he barley sips it for like the first 15 minuets of class, then randomly he will just down the entire cup and comment about the ideal temperature.
Usually those first 15 minuets are something really productive, like talking about how to tie shoes or the advantages and disadvantages of using ice cubes.

I enjoy using an Aero Press for my coffee.
I don't drink a whole lot of it because I'm restricted to what green coffee I can get as I won't buy anything roasted. I'm into picking and processing my own coffee then roasting it :)

Woo, that's hardcore! smile Where on earth do you pick it?

Ash Small: Only "quite palatable"? Don't be such a Sassenach. smile

I quite like coffee, Scotch and blue Monster too, but not all mixed together. That would be quite a cocktail.

Or in other words, make it sweet enough and it becomes perfectly drinkable :) (That's my preferred way of consuming coffee and hard liquor as well.)

I used to enjoy quite abit of absinthe as my favourite drink, but it has now been along time (decent absinth is hard to come by here in Denmark).

A good absinthe with the famous (at least amongst absinthe geeks) Pontarlier wormwood, is simply the most delightfulll substance one can ever consume. There is nothing like good absinthe. As a consequence of the obivous lack of quality absinth I am forced to statisfy myself with good whisky and cognac instead, which I must admit is also quite alright, but I would prefer the absinthe wink

Theres alot of misunderstandings about absinthe, most people seem to think that it is either some magical drink that will get you crazy, or that is deadly poison that will either blind you or kill you.. neither is true.

Sadly the magical bullshit stories are being used by sales/marketing people who brand their faked absinthe so people seeking a high would buy it, thus making all absinthes have a rather bad reputation and enforcing all the sad misunderstandings.
I have even experinced a magazine that did a review of absinthe, whom drank the absinthe pure! That is ridicolus, you must always add water (sometimes also sugar if you like) to your absinthe. Most offen it is diluted something like 1 part absinth to 3 or 5 parts water.

Everytime I tell someone about absinthe they go like "uh oh is that not dangerous? " and it really annoys me. Fake 'absinthe' (people would make "copies" of absinthe using various chemicals to make it apear similar) was dangerous in the late 1890's and early 1900's (before it was banned, politics was shit even back then), but the real absinthe never was any more dangerous than the alcohol in it.
