*plays the AC/DC Big Balls song*
The brass balls under 1" diameter are reasonably priced but anything on that website from 1-2.5" gets pretty expensive unless you buy bulk for lower cost.
For anyone looking at larger stuff, there are some other larger electrodes available as hollow spheres. I picked up a pair of 4" and 6" stainless steel hollow spheres with a threaded post for $60 shipped on ebay which is reasonable considering those 2.5" brass balls cost $40 ea in bulk!
I believe they're used as garden-type decorations or whatnot. I'm not sure if they can be found for less/more but spun shapes are pretty hard to come by as is. It'd be nice if there would be a compilation thread on ordinary items that can be converted to usage as spark gaps/corona shields/toroids/toploads/anything HV related. A nice little page of weblinks to these items would make it pretty handy. I know personally that I am -always- looking around for stuff at the hardware store that can be used for HV purposes.

Christopher, since you're a 4hv member, all your balls are belong to us Actually I feel inadequate since mine are only about 3/4" diameter with M5 threaded holes. I got them off an old piece of equipment that the university HV lab was scrapping.

I agree with ForceLabs! That would be a truley awsome sight, how big would the spark gap have to be? (not to mention the size of everything else!) I suppose quenching the gap could be a problem though Richy.
