Well it seems that I am going to watch this and let it go since it seems whatever I say won't change anything :) A quick question so I don't keep starting threads.
I have a modern dc flyback that is utilizing the tv's pcb to drive it(I probably should do the 2n3055 driver but with the tv's driving transistor). I can pull 1.5 inch arcs that are rather hot. I'd like to do a small spark gap tc with it.
What specs for the capacitor(I was thinking a 2nf saltwater jar capacitor), primary and secondary should I utilize? I've seen various ones and I'm not sure what to go with. The various calculators I've seen usually assume you are using a 50 or 60 hertz nst.

That question does in fact belong in a new thread.
Because the flyback is DC, you have more flexibility in capacitor choice. It will charge any size of capacitor, but the bigger it is, the longer it'll take and the slower your Tesla coil will fire.
So, just use whatever size of cap you feel like making. To estimate the firing rate, estimate the flyback's power output and use the equation for energy in a capacitor, to calculate how long it'll take to reach the firing voltage of your spark gap. This won't give an exact answer, but it'll be in the ballpark.
