Hey that's a good deal, although the postage is quite steep.

I don't like to parallel IGBTs. Mosfets on the other hand can be paralleled very easily. The resistance rises with temperature so they are self balancing.
Yeah, parallel IGBT's is sort of frowned upon.
That seller combines shipping though, so if you by several rails the shipping becomes less steep. Nothin' like having 150 TO-247 IGBT's to break smile

hi Kilovolt you can add igbt's in parallel if you use mached sets or bach no. also you can put low ohm,low inductance, resistors of .1 or so in each drain. what I want to do along the same lines as this thread is to put about 5 igbts of 1200v in series and make a 5kv bridge. have you tried that

Sometime ago I experimented with a similar idea. For a single switch, this worked fine.

thanks Mathias I to have thought of something like this the windings have to hold off 5kv. maby a big core with some coax center core.

There's a seller on Ebay selling HGTG30N60B3D IGBT's @ $24 for a rail of 30.
Nice things...hard to beat 80 cents a transistor.

He wants $24.95 + $12.23 + 8.75% TAX for CA.... so about $1.33 for each, but maybe thats worth it.

i just wish people on Ebay wouldnt try to go cheap on the listing, then cram on the shipping.

Hi yes I have seen the deals on Ebay, but as I'm from Europe there are problems with shipping and some sellers don't ship at all to Europe.
The 30N60C3 IGBT is pretty slow, it's a completely different component than the 30N60A4. But I have thought about buying it too.
I just wanted to use the 7N60A4 IGBT as the local supplier has it on stock, with free shipping, they also have the 20N60A4 but it is 4 times as expensive and probably overkill. I think they also have a 12N60A4 IGBT, but the performance/price ratio is a lot worse than the 7N60.

It had already been proven that the MMI approach work, it is just a matter of how good.

You have not specified what you are going make but if you are going to drive a transformer of some kind how about doubling up the input impedance and voltage?

It's annoying, but I know why they do it. Historically ebay has only charged their obscene final value fees on the bid price and not the shipping. Recently they changed this so that the fees count on the total price with shipping, so that should be an improvement. The down side is that sellers are now likely to skimp on packing in order to keep shipping costs as low as possible. Ebay really does gouge, by the time you add up the seller fees and the chunk that Papal (owned by Ebay) skims, you lose around 10%.

You lose about another ten percent if the transaction involves a currency change. I sold a Landrover to a bloke in Germany for £1,200 and only ended up with £900 after ' GayPal tax'.
