OK, we have the rules, let's start building.

Check out my newest project (practice for this contest) in the projects section.
a 3C24 coil, pretty small. 13" high 6 wide 6 long
Power supply included.

The Outboard power supply will enable this to be really small.

I'm in, and yes, I will supply an award / trophy for the winner.

Can't wait to see everyone's coils!

I hope I am not smelling a Mini dual 35TG @ w/staccato VTTC coming?

Your 35TG looks EXACTLY like my 3C24! I wonder if they are the same tube different designation?
I got 1" brushed out of a single 3C24 without any tuning at all of the coil.
My entry is finished but now I can't get it to oscilate! cry mad

Got first light, then put it all in it's Lexan box and now all it does is get a red hot plate at around 40 Volts input from the variac with no oscilation! dead

It will live again, I have the technology, it will be better than before!
What ever happened to the Six million dollar man anyway?

I am envioioning a Lexan thingie with a lightable tube trophy concoction for the winner. cheesey

All,

I don't know if you guys have decided to let this thread die or what? I was getting interested and considering making an entry myself. It looks at though Peter "..." was correct and this thread turned out to be more talk than actual coiling. I guess Peter is in the lead right now with his 811 project. 5" sparks is pretty good too for that setup....of course, I would propose that the rules involve some sort of max coil size, and then have the competition revolve around the coil which could produce the longest spark without exceeding the maximum limit of coil dimension. Or possibly the smallest VTTC that can still produce sparks as long as it's secondary winding length......half as long? Something like that. I am not impressed by any of the small VTTCs out there that produce 1/4 inch sparks or even 1 inch.

If I can find a spool of very small wire, I'll make an entry.

Dan: "What happened to that trophy?"

I may have just been convinced to pull out the 6146 tubes that i have all ready to be shipped to someone to start my line operated TC- voltage quadrupler with 4 560uf caps. Anyone have some doorknob caps or an air variable? smile I'm not sure what capacitance will be neccessary for the tank circuit on this, but I think I'll go the air variable route for ease of tuning the coil- its much easier to fine tune the capacitance then the inductance of the primary once i get around the right value- maybe a small doorknob in parallel with an air variable cap? Hmmm, got me thinking!

Drats and I most likely won't make WWT 2k8, and I've been thinking of making a VTCC, but the process just seems....a bit leary for my situation.

meh, we should not competition for size or spark lenght... what about input power. my very first vttc was made with a pl504 pentode, which can only handle about 15 watts or so, and got an inch of breakout with around 500v input (Mains driven with Voltage Doubler)

With so few competitors, and Vaxian's and ShawnLG's coil not giving a breakout, I was going to let this thread die. (sorry Peter wink ) But since the you guys remembered we might as well finish it off. I was thinking we just voted on our favorite VTTC. Since this thread is a about mini-VTTCs changing the criteria to longest streamer for lowest power would be unfair. Reaching, your entry counts now too. Are there any more entries planned? Brett or EDY19? If so we can delay the voting for another month, hehe.

Well, I don't need to be counted into the competition, as I don't even have a suitable tank capacitor yet. The quadrupler is done, I have a filament transformer, 2 6146 tubes, and a couple bypass capacitors, but thats about it as of now. I'd really like to make a small stacatto circuit for it, too. I'll have a look around online to find a simple one. However, Im pretty sure that this won't be done and ready within a month as im quite busy with... everything tongue
