Thats true, obviously. Still I wonder what kind of dye could be in there causing this. I know that ruby laser rods supposedly absorb 532nm to reradiate at their 706nm or whatever, and some dyes like flourescine do it too, but this is the only household item I have noticed this kind of flourescence with so far.

Just about anything that floresces a color of a lower wavelnegth than green will glow when hit by a green laser... Red/yellow reflective stripes, some toys, etc
I would expect that band on the feather glow red under a uv light...

Most flourescent materials require pumping in a more or less narrow wavelength range, often in the UV, but not always (YAG laser rods are an example that absorbs at 808nm and floureces at 1024nm). Therefore I don't expect too much things to act in this way, incidentially, I don't know many flourecent materials anyway... Maybe TDU could point a green Laser at his flourescent scorpion?

Most things fluoresce. The question is whether or not the emitted light is visible- it often isn't, whether the efficiency is high- it's often lousy and whether the pumping radiation is commonly available again, not often.

The human body fluoresce in visible light, it seems like many things that are alive or have been alive also does to some degree. A flash of about 10 J for every cm^2 will make a quite surprising display if your eyes are at the most sensitive. Remember to close and cover your eyes and don't peek until after the flash.
