 		What if one were to use silver nitrate to silver some jars/beer bottles? Link2

Since the silver is all but attached to the glass on a microscopic level I'd imagine such a capacitor to be very stable. Soaked under oil it should be able to handle some fairly high powers, and there would be no corona.

Anyone with access to chemicals want to try this?

 		Glass has a high RF dissipation factor, which makes it inherently unsuitable as a dielectric in TC caps.

 		Well it doesn't necessarily have to be glass. It could be plastic containers or even polypropylene, polyester or mylar sheets.

Why???

even if the corona cannot take place between glass and the plates it will always formed around the edges of the metallization, anyhow, the salt water works better than the metallization for preventing the corona losses because there isn't a sharp edge and because a small layer of oil is always added and left float over the saltwater to prevent evaporation and for insulating purposes.


I personally didn't suggest the use of a silver metallization because is a big chemical mess and the result is usually thin and disomogeneous, if you want a waterless leyden jar you could use two thick electroplated electrodes instead (wich can easily made by using copper sulfate, sulfuric acid, demineralized water, some scrap pieces of copper as anode, graphite spray for making the first conductive layer around the glass and many hours at few hundreds of milliamperes to do the job).

 		Well you could, but since the silver would be much closer to the dielectric the the foil could ever be, you'd get more nF into a smaller space.

The thickness could be an issue though, so putting a piece of alu foil atop the silver plating could increase the current handling ability.
