Hi guys,

there's one thing I've long wondered about with this steve's circuit... wouldn't it be a good idea to actually put some DC bias (with a pot and a series resistor, set just on the middle of 74hc14's hysteresis range) onto the pin 1 of the ic? This way the input would be far more sensitive and oscillation would be easier to start. I've never seen something like that implemented though and his coils seemed to do darn well without it too. So from experience, if your coil isn't starting at 20-30 volts then something's wrong with the circuit.

the problem cant be in circut, i have tested this default scheme Link2 on my previous little bit smaller coil and everything worked just fine FB and OCD, since then i've changed the UCC's voltages to 9V, added the 24V P/N mosfet driver, and rewound CTs. here's photo.

actually the second CT isnt 1:33 but about 0,6:33..

i think there're no "half turn" for a ferrite core.. every time your wire pass through the center hole for once, that's one turn..

See if the problem is the flip-flop delay RC..

wooww, this is a really good idea!

It's right! each time you pass the wire inside the core it means one turn!

I must admit that i forget on this RC delay thing, i had there wrong combination of RC.
so now according to this reading Link2 i've changed my RC values to R:33k and C:1nF
this gives RC: 3,3*10^-4 my resonant frequency should be around 70-85Khz period around 12uS. now my constant is RC=2,75*P.
But still i cant get any oscillations from driver.. sad

But when you putted a square signal at the FeedBack input at the end of the driver (GDT out or GDT primary) got you an oscillation?

yes, but i can't call that oscillations, it's just an amplified square signal from input

The problem must be definitly in kick up voltage, I compared this driver with another one. here is how looks the waveform of kick up pulse on Gates, the upper one is working driver and lower is this problematic driver, the voltage is too low and there is also some muffled oscilations. What can be wrong on this driver, wich part exactly?

Hello,
what is the size of the GDT primary DC block caps in the drivers? From the timebase setting on the scope shots, it seems that the waveform is just from the interrupter without any feedback and that the GDT primary dc block cap is oscillating with its inductance.

yes, its without feedback signal, i was just scoping kickup impulse. i have there two 10uF SMD caps in parallel and one 10ohm resistor just like in scheme.
