If you have 1 kOhm gate resistors how quickly can they charge up the gate capacitance of the trasistors? I prefer a low voltage supply for the gates with low value resistors. Arrange for the gate supply voltage to turn on before the main power to reduce transistor failures.

Hi Inducktion, do you think that your zeners could have been in backwards. If you follow the ZVS circuit to the letter it should work fine. It is just about persevering. Do you have any pictures of your setup?

I made sure the zeners were facing the right way...It worked fine previously, all the way up to like 50 volts....

Frankly when I first made those Mazzlli drivers I chose a lower wattage zener (I'm not too sure what it was but at perhaps .5 watts) & I think that was a very weak link. I like the idea of not using them at all.

Just use an external gate power supply. I am telling you, it works great . Use around 500 ohms or even less, and 15v gate supply.
You need no zeners, because the voltage on the gate cannot get higher than 15v theoretically. In practice there are some factors such as stray inductance and capacitance that can cause spikes but the gate can handle it. Hell, it is made for +-20v, and you could get alot higher without it breaking over, but the gate would oxidize faster with more voltage.
