What would genuinely be a step forward would be a "mobile friendly" version... light on graphics/avatars/frames etc.

That's the idea. 4hv displays fine on most phones from what I've seen (though it could certainly use a more optimal layout), but since there are many images to load, many requests have to be made to the server. In areas that don't have 3G/4G service, or even in 3G/4G areas with latency problems, it can take a long time to get all those requests through.

With smartphones rapidly catching up to desktop browsers, though, and Opera Mini doing a fine job on most non-smart phones, I don't think we'll need a separate "mobile friendly" layout. We can get both mobile-friendly and desktop-friendly out of one layout.

It's easy to forget that not everyone has "unlimited" data on their mobiles. I have a 500MB per month cap (but I have to pay extra on my contact for the privilege) Which sounds a lot for a smartphone but as I often work away and need to use the phone in tether mode to give my Laptop internet access then bandwidth hungry sites can soon eat this up. I often think it's ironic that we've gone from the era of limited and expensive "dial up", thorough the era of cheap, fast broadband and now we are in the era of limited and expensive mobile data.

Martin.

It was annoying to view the forum on my old blackberry but displays perfectly on my iPhone. I think there are more important priorities than this, as well.

The ring model is when a fixed circle starts a topic and passes from start to end in order. If there is a break-in, the new member
is recognized, invited to listen, and positioned at the end of the list,
after hearing one full rotation. Hams use this model sometimes.
